RARE AMISH SUNSHINE AND SHADOW 1940's EXCELLENT
QUILT
For sale is the ultimate sought after pattern and colors in Quilts. It is
a hand quilted and pieced SUNSHINE and SHADOW. Made circa 1940 by Mrs. Stoltzfus.
Below you will find all the description that was given by the appraiser in 2001.
This is the quilt on the front cover of the book SUNSHINE AND SHADOW by Phyllis
Haders in 1976. This is a book about Amish quilts. We also have the reprint of
an article from The Greater York Antiques Show in York Pennsylvania that shows a
picture of a quilt like this one that was purchased for $13,500.

Predominant Colors: Green, lavender, purple, black, blue, red
Fabric: Wool challis and wool crepe
Bat/Fill: Cotton
Construction technique: Hand quilted and pieced.
Quilting-Pattern/Amount: Rose and vine and cross hatch
Description: Central area pieced of squares in barn raising arrangement.
Bordered about 12" with blue corner squares.
Backing: Blue gingham check. (see pic of stain on back)
Edge Finish: 1" Burgundy binding
Construction: Very good workmanship
Quilting: Very good workmanship
Condition/Restorations: Excellent.
Provenance: Made in Lancaster PA
Notations: Embroidered initial on back "D" (probably a wedding quilt)

We have several old, handmade quilts for sale. These quilts were donated to Scope Ministries International. Scope is a Biblical Training and Personal Guidance center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Proceeds will go to the general fund to benefit this non-profit organization.
