I will come again, and receive you to Myself… John 14:3

A dear friend of mind went to spend Easter with Jesus. Now there is nothing remarkable about any one of us going home to be with the Lord – it happens every day. What is remarkable is that there is a home to go home to, and herein lies one of the great truths of Scripture.

I have said it before and I say it again, no one ever died in the presence of Jesus! Why? The answer is simple – they couldn’t. You see He is life incarnate – death can be nowhere near Him. This was true then, it is true today. Jesus in one fatal moment broke Satan’s hold on death –Jesus said, "I have come that you might have life, and that you might have it abundantly." Now I would hazard a guess that Jesus is not just talking of physical life here. The word He uses for "life," means "life as God has it," a vibrant, joyful, victorious life.

Jesus always related life to Himself. "I AM the way, the truth, and the life," he proclaimed to Thomas. And to Martha He said, "I AM the resurrection and the life." He told His disciples, "I AM the bread of life." This is why Paul could declare that Jesus is our life. (Colossians 3:4)

Now get this – we are told that we are in Christ! What this means that we are indelibly united – made one with – Jesus. God through a gracious act made us One with Him. Amazing! This means that you have life in you as your present possession because the One who is Life dwells in you.

Another thing, the gist of John 14:1-3 reveals that Jesus not only has prepared a place for us, but when He calls us to Himself He will escort us home. Incredible!

Some time ago, I was told a remarkable story. It concerned the wife of a good friend, a deeply committed Christian couple. She had been diagnosed with an inoperable, malignant brain tumor. She was given only a short time to live.

As the disease progressed and she lay close to death, she told her husband, "That the young man" was here to take her home. She couldn’t understand why no one else could see him. There was an intense, prevailing peace about her. You see, it was He, the One who said, "I will come again and receive you unto Myself."

Because He lives, I live and because I live I can face all of my tomorrows.

Life is a grand adventure of being alive in Him.
