Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness. 1 Chronicles 16:29

There is something wonderfully exhilarating about worship. It goes with knowing God. The more you know of Him, the more you desire to worship Him. One cannot reflect upon His greatness and majesty without worshipping Him. Worship Him in the beauty of holiness.

I suppose you already know this, but we were created for worship. This was why God so carefully crafted Adam and Eve – this is why God has gone to such great lengths to restore us – to worship Him. This was Adam’s primary role – it is also ours. Worship is a wonderful thing, a glorious thing when you worship aright.

But worship doesn’t come easy – there’s much confusion here. It doesn’t take much to discover the culprits of this confusion – there are two I think. First, there is the lack of knowledge of God and secondly, a lack of understanding of worship.

Now each and every one of us would all like to believe that we know God, but don’t, at least not the way we should. Our perceptions of God are prone to error and ignorance. This is why God puts so much emphasis on the renewing of the mind.

What this means is that God knows and understands that our preconceived perceptions of Him are at the best juvenile, and at the worst erroneous. So He sent the Holy Spirit to initiate the process of knowing God. This is just like God isn’t it?

Then, of course there is our part – the desire to know Him, the pursuit of Him. We search the Scriptures for Him, to discover Him, to learn of Him. This is why the Bible is so important – important that we read it, study it, memorize it, meditate on it.

Of course He allows us to chat with Him and talk with Him. He delights in our times together – they are very important to Him – very important to us also. This is why prayer is so crucial – it is the quickest way I know of discovering intimacy with God.

Ironically, we can’t know God without God choosing to reveal Himself. This is not a do-it-yourself program, it is a carefully nurtured plan of God of restoring us to Himself so we can once again be living vessels of praise to Him.

If you want to worship Him, then begin by asking Him to create in you the things necessary for worship – desire, awe, reverence – these He will produce in you. Try it, you will like it.

The worship of God is the highest honor a Christian can have.
