Jesus is Jehovah

For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form. Colossians 2:9

I am afraid there are a few, perhaps many who believe that the life of Jesus began in the manger. This is a terrible error and one fraught with danger. To believe this would deny the deity of Jesus.

I suppose one could confuse the birth of Jesus as the beginning of His existence – and in a way this is true, for it heralded the beginning of His humanity. There are those, of course, who look only to His humanity – they deliberately deny His deity.

The Bible teaches very clearly of the pre-existence of Jesus – make no mistake of this. If you don’t believe this, then you don’t believe the Bible, and if you don’t believe the Bible, you don’t believe in God – not the God revealed in Holy Scriptures.

The Bible writers make a great deal of Jesus’ humanity. They went to great lengths to show that He was totally and completely human. Why? Because they knew that God became man in Jesus. They knew Him as wholly God and perfect Man.

It was important for them to show that Jesus lived the life that He did, not in the inherent power of His deity, but in the weakness of His humanity – drawing His power to live by faith through the Spirit – just like we do.

But it must be understood, make no mistake of this, that Jesus had no beginning! He always existed. Pay close attention to what I am saying for it is crucially and eternally important. Jehovah, the God of the Old Testament is none other than Jesus our Savior in the New Testament – likewise, Jesus of the NT is Jehovah of the OT.

Jesus, you know, consciously and deliberately revealed His deity over and over again. He refers to Himself as the great I AM. Now to the Jew there was no mistaking Jesus intent when He referred to Himself in this manner – they immediately tried to stone Him for blasphemy.

Paul in writing to the Colossians presented the deity of Jesus in startling terms. He wrote, "For in His humanity exists every attribute of the Godhead." (Col. 2:9) What I am saying is that at one time or another Jesus exhibited every attribute of God while here on earth.

What we must understand, if Jesus is not God then there can be no salvation, no forgiveness of sin, no eternity with Him, no heaven just hell. O I know, there are those who say that Jesus became God at the cross. This is sheer nonsense. He always was God and He will always be God. Man cannot change God to meet his whims.

Jesus of the NT is Jehovah of the OT.
