Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away.
Matthew 24:35

It is a dangerous thing to say that not all the Bible pertains to us today. There are those who might misunderstand what is being said. Paul certainly had no qualms about declaring that all Scripture is God-breathed, that is inspired by God Himself, and is profitable for teaching, training, correction and reproof.

It is difficult for those of us who are just common, everyday Christians to understand the thinking of those who delete portions of Scripture. Now mind you they are not so bold that they would slash away, rather they explain away. It has been my experience that a person will tend to explain away what he doesn’t understand.

It has been all but impossible for man to admit that his reason is not infallible. He finds it even harder to subject it to a higher authority. It has always been that way though, man’s wisdom as opposed to God’s Word – reason vs. revelation.

Perhaps it is that learned men sometimes get carried away with their learning. I can understand this if they have nothing else. Learned men seem to always ask questions rather than propose answers. Questions are always easier than answers.

Knowledge to many has become an end in and of itself. Paul said that knowledge is a dangerous thing – dangerous when it is not permeated in love. It is easy when knowledge is supreme to become educated beyond one’s intelligence. There is something heady and fragrant about man’s wisdom that ensnares the wise and mighty.

It is hard for the wise man to admit his wisdom is but foolishness when opposed to God’s Word. It seems folly to the mighty man to admit his weakness in light of God. God puts great store in His foolish things, His weak things for it is by them that He confounds the wise and the mighty.

Yes, it is dangerous to say that the Word of God doesn’t pertain to us. Certainly, not all of it is directed at us in context, but it does pertain, it is applicable, it is necessary. “For the Word of God is alive and powerful – Heb. 4:12
