Experiencing Your New Identity

Christians must experience their new identity in Christ.

"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me." (Galatians 2:20)

A. The goal of experiencing our new identity is:

For whom He foreknew He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29

1. It is not a matter of one’s own activities and works.

2. This is 100% God’s part.

B. The means to achieve this goal has already been given by God by the means of the Holy Spirit:

These things I have spoken to you, while abiding with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things, and will bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. John 14:25-26

1. The Holy Spirit is a person, not a divine power.

2. He is the catalyst to experiencing who you are in Christ.

3. It is not a matter of one’s service or assistance.

4. This is also 100% God’s part.

C. The method of implementing God’s part in experiencing our new identity is:
Colossians 2:6:
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.  &
Hebrews 11:6a: And without faith it is impossible to please Him.

1. We must first accept by faith what God says is true about Himself and who we are in our new nature.

2. We must act upon the truth regardless of feelings, past experience, or circumstances.

3. It is not a matter of passivity or inactivity. An active faith is a response to the Holy Spirit.

4. This is 100% our part.

Application - Experiencing my new identity in Christ involves living in the truth of the Spirit rather than the memory of the old nature.

A. Philippians 2:13, For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good purpose.

This teaching is a summary of lesson four of Pneumanetics. Pneumanetics is a philosophy or model on which we base our biblical counseling. It is a course to train Christians in ministering to others.

This teaching is also included in lesson three, "Seeing Ourselves As God Sees Us" in our workbook, "Be Transformed".
