Two Facts About Father/God Concept:

Fact ONE - We lost our relationship with the Father.

a. At the fall, we lost our Father-child relationship with God, and our spirit died to God. We became spiritual orphans.
b. As Christians, we are God’s children, and we are reconciled to Him. “See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. (1 John 3:1-3)
c. Being separate from God has affected our belief system about the Father.
d. Our image of God is based on things such as our experiences with our dads, our incomplete view of God, as well as the information that the world system has given to us about fathers.

Fact TWO - How we regain our relationship with the Father.

a. A key Pneumanetics principle:
We become like God in the same proportion as we see Him as He is.
b. Find out what God’s Word says about Him.
Two examples are:

1. God loves us unconditionally. “But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

2. God forgives us. “For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the  forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13-14)

c. We can only accomplish this new relationship through the power of the Holy Spirit.
d. Choose to act and react according to who God is and our new beliefs.
e. A positive cycle:

The more we know Him, the more we are like Him. The more we are like Him, the more we want to know Him and be in relationship with Him.

This teaching is a summary of lesson nine of Pneumanetics. Pneumanetics is a philosophy or model on which we base our biblical counseling. It is a course to train Christians in ministering to others.

This teaching is also included in lesson four, “Getting to Know the Heavenly Father” in our workbook "Be Transformed".
