11 "Through our union with Him we have experienced circumcision of heart. All of the guilt and power of sin has been cut away and is now extinct because of what Christ, the Anointed One, has accomplished for us.
12 "For we’ve been buried with Him into His death. Our “baptism into death” also means we were raised with Him when we believed in God’s resurrection power, the power that raised Him from death’s realm.
13 "This “realm of death” describes our former state, for we were held in sin’s grasp. But now, we’ve been resurrected out of that “realm of death” never to return, for we are forever alive and forgiven of all our sins!
14 "He canceled out every legal violation we had on our record and the old arrest warrant that stood to indict us. He erased it all—our sins, our stained soul—He deleted it all and they cannot be retrieved! Everything we once were in Adam has been placed onto His cross and nailed permanently there as a public display of cancellation." Colossians 2:11-14 TPT
Maybe you haven't read this before, or maybe it didn't make sense to you when you read it, but when you accepted Christ, you were baptized into His death. You were crucified with Jesus. You died with Him. You were buried with Him. And you were resurrected with Him into a New Life, His Life. He now lives in you by His Spirit. He is at work in you to transform you from the inside out. Yes, our flesh patterns are still with us and the power of sin still presses in on us, BUT Paul tells us that Jesus has made us dead to sin. You say, "It sure doesn't feel like it! I keep messing up."
The truth is...before Jesus, you had no choice, you were a slave to sin, it had dominion over you. NOW, you are dead to the power of sin, you have the freedom to choose a better way, to walk according to the Spirit. How does that work? It starts with FAITH, believing what the Word tells us about being dead to sin. How can you walk in truth if you do not believe it as truth? Ask Jesus to make this revelation real to you.
Then, for myself, walking 'according to the Spirit,' or choosing NOT to yield to the temptation put before me, has come by using my time wisely. I find the more I sit with Jesus and allow Him to reveal His truth to me through His Word and just love on me, the more I am motivated to pursue Him in many other ways: studying, worshipping, listening to good teaching about this Grace given to us, spending time with other believers while sharing our transformation stories. Mind you, these things are now done out of my great love for Him and what He has done for me, not out of compulsion or a need to perform for His love or acceptance. These are just a few things, but you get the idea. The more I press into Jesus, the less allure my past sins have to tempt me. This is Freedom indeed! And I want you to walk in this freedom.
